Swords Dancers

Description

I should have done this when I originally made the team application, but here's an overview of the Bonemerang Gang's personality and backstories. Gonna put it on their actual profile page, but I know people who already saw it probably wouldn't get to read it until later.

Anyway, Silas and Bryce both know the Swords Dance technique. Bryce, being already somewhat familiar with dancing, picked up the technique from Silas. The two work well as dancers, but their personalities also compliment each other. Silas offers Bryce direction and teaches her to think less about herself and more about others, while Bryce offers Silas an understanding of what it means to relax and enjoy things for what they are.

Also, uh, because he is brought up in Silas's backstory, here is an unfinished drawing of Silas and Cutter in my scraps. [link]

Silas the Cubone:
Enlightenment

A responsible, serious Pokemon, Silas will more readily rely on her logic than her emotions and exhibits a great deal of personal control. In spite of being raised by bandits (or perhaps because of it), Silas is a very humble and self-aware Pokemon. When she sets her mind on a task, she is determined to finish it as she intended. When she makes a mistake, she is determined to amend it. When she is wrong, she is determined to understand why.

Born in an unknown part of the world, though presumably near the Sandsong Desert, Silas was found alone as an infant by a bandit Sandslash named Cutter, who was leader to a small gang of rogue Sandshrews. Cutter took her in and adopted her into the gang. Though Cutter's rogues are the earliest family that Silas could remember, he made a point of reminding her that she was an outsider that they had allowed to be there out of his good grace. Cutter gave her the name Silas, a boy's name, because he felt that it would help her grow to be strong. The two came to be very close, however, the affections they felt for one another were unspoken. It was difficult for Silas to discern how Cutter regarded her. He would often put her through harsh trials, both physical and emotional. His treatment of Silas was noticeably tougher than his treatment of the rest of the gang, and the gang, in turn, treated her more as a servant and a scapegoat than a true member of their team. She was frequently subjected to various kinds of torment and humiliation, but all of these she dealt with in silent dignity.
When Silas was old enough, Cutter entrusted Silas with the knowledge of his special technique, the Swords Dance. He revealed to her that it was his intention to shape her into the next leader of their gang, for when the time came that he had to step down. Silas accepted the role that had been chosen for her and trained diligently under Cutter, practicing his technique until she had mastered it for herself.
The Sandshrew rogues had caught word that Cutter was seasoning an apprentice to take on the role of leader, and when they learned that he had chosen Silas to take the task, they felt shocked and outraged. Having mistaken Cutter's previously abusive treatment of Silas as acts of cruelty rather than a means to test her fortitude, the Sandshrews felt betrayed that their punching bag had been chosen over any of them.
One night, while Cutter slept, the Sandshrews conspired together and collectively banished Silas from the group, leaving her to wander the desert alone...

Bryce the Gligar:
Freedom

An airy, energetic Pokemon. In contrast to Silas, Bryce is very open with her emotions and will rely more on her gut instinct than her brains. This often leads to her getting into unfortunate situations, but her simpler way of dealing with problems allows her to look at the bigger picture when Silas is too busy fussing over details. She is honest, brutally so, and is never afraid to speak her mind. Bryce is a Pokemon with little to hide and everything to give. She takes great pride in her individuality, however, it's easy for her to lack a sense of direction and she needs others around her to support her decisions. As a result, she can come off as somewhat clingy. However, her loyalty knows no bounds.
Bryce is a bit of a goofball and likes to joke around, but she's stubborn as a mule and shares Silas's drive to finish what she starts.

As with many other Gligars, Bryce was born in the Sandsong Desert. Coming from a rather large family, she was raised alongside her five older siblings: Copper, Logan, Havasu, Tsangpo, and Ouimet. Being the youngest of six children didn't make for a particularly unhappy life, but Bryce constantly found herself struggling to keep up with her siblings or to get her own attention from their parents. She would quarrel and quibble with her siblings on a daily (hourly) basis and would have to share everything with them, a concept she openly detested and rebelled against. Despite the strain, Bryce did love her family very much. Even so, she felt that she needed to stand out from her other siblings in some way.
Bryce began to shape her personality and prankish sense of humor around that desire, much to the chagrin of both her siblings and her parents. She would act out in silly ways that came off as more obnoxious and overbearing to her family. It caused more problems than it helped to start and made an uncomfortable rift between her and her family.
To try and compensate, Bryce took up practicing more acrobatic forms of gliding, so that she may have a defining skill that set her apart from her brothers and sisters. In time, Bryce did become quite proficient in Acrobatics, though she still felt that her relationship with her family was just a constant struggle for attention and personal recognition.
Bryce decided, then, that she would leave home and find her own way in the world. She would become something great, she told herself, and when she had achieved that, she would come home to the pride and love of her whole family.
...Once she figured out what it was she was going to be great AT, in any case...
So the night came when Bryce left home, and she glided and glided farther into the desert, farther away from home until the day broke and she couldn't keep awake in the air any longer...
